Podcast Episode “Staying Local in Japan at Rise's House” - Part 1

In Season 1, Episode 6 of the Japan Travel Pros Podcast, we’re joined by Rise-san, proprietor of Rise’s House, a small, local inn in a smaller city in Japan.

Rise-san on Hospitality, Community & Experiencing a Different Side of Japan

Our guest shares how he created Rise's House in Nishio, Aichi Prefecture, and why meaningful travel begins with human connections rather than simply checking places off your itinerary.

by Ari at Japan Travel Pros

In this episode, the first of a two-part series, Rise-san joins us for a conversation about hospitality, community and a different way of experiencing Japan. Rise-san is the founder of:

Rise's House in Nishio, Aichi Prefecture

Inspired by a serendipitous journey abroad, Rise-san returned to Japan with a vision of creating a place where travelers could connect with local people, businesses and everyday life in his hometown.

In Part 1 of our conversation, we talk about the experiences that shaped his journey, why Nishio has so much more to offer than many visitors realize and how meaningful travel often begins with simple human connections.

Ari’s Notes:

This was such a great conversation that we ended up making it into two episodes.

Rise-san is doing really cool stuff in his hometown - a true ambassador of Nishio, and someone on the front lines as a bridge between Japan and the world.

We’re grateful that Rise-san took time out of his busy schedule to join us for a chat.

Aki and I are looking forward to staying at Rise’s House sometime in the near future, and meeting some of the people of Nishio that Rise-san talks about in this episode. I hope you will have an opportunity to do the same!

Stayed tuned for more great episodes coming up!
